The kids, Eve and Ethan, now ride Patch every morning. While playing in the stream next to their cabin they meet an Indian boy. While they cannot talk to the Indian boy, the children learn to understand each other while playing.
The Indian boy's sister speaks English and the kids go to the Indian camp and play. One day the Indian children come to their farm to play in the stream. When the Indian tribe moves away, Eve and Ethan are very sad at losing their new friends.
